Remote Work Stories: Karina

One of our favorite benefits of working at ALT is the ability to work remotely. This allows our employees to spend quality time with their loved ones, and explore exciting new places. Over the next month we’ll be sharing stories from some of our team members to highlight where they’ve been while working at ALT.

Next up is Karina Chan, Software Engineer.

How long have you worked here?

7 months.

What place(s) have you been able to explore while working remotely, and why did you choose to go there?

I was able to work remotely from Lake Tahoe, Salt Lake City and Hawaii. My boss also enjoys skiing and was pretty understanding about me adjusting my working schedule to enjoy the powder! I also had other friends who were working remotely so I figured I wouldn't have too much fear of missing out if we're all working together.

What was your favorite thing you did while traveling?

Hawaii was easy living, and I enjoyed waking up early, so it worked out great. Since they are three hours behind California, I never missed a sunset. :)

What surprised you about working remotely?

It feels like a half vacation because after work, you're exploring fun new activities and environments and broadening your world view. Working remotely also gives you the chance to imagine your life in a myriad of environments. For example, now that I've given Salt Lake City a try and found how much I love it there, I'm contemplating staying there for a few months during the next ski season to take advantage of the great snow.

Where are you considering traveling to next?

Miami! I've heard from other remote work travellers that the suburbs around Miami were a favorite destination.
