ALT HITS

August 1, 2022

Welcome to August, and welcome back to ALT Hits.

We had a great time at The National last week, meeting collectors from all over the world, and learning about where they see the hobby headed.

Going from The National to The International, in case you missed it, ALT is now available in 28 countries, opening up our platform to a global audience of collectors.
And now in Liquid Auctions, you can bid on cards with an ALT Value of up to $100,000 without making a deposit into your account.
Wondering how Alternative Assets have been holding up during a rocky 2022? We did the math, and made a handy chart.
That’s the latest news from ALT. Now on with the Hits

BEHIND THE LOGOS

While we still don’t know who bought the LeBron Triple Logoman that sold for $2.4 million earlier this year, ESPN did a nice deep dive into the card’s appeal and the hype around the search.

MANTLE PIECE

At the end of August, a super rare, 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle in an SGC 9.5 grade will go up for auction, and many people think it will be the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia ever sold. Get your ALT Advance ready.

THE BEST OF FOOTBALL’S BEST

Who are the NFL’s hottest players to collect, and what’s their most sought after card? Here’s a handy look.

SWATCH WHAT HAPPENS

What will classic watch brand Swatch give collectors next? A new high-end collaboration seems  imminent. What will it be? Time will tell.

SET PHASES TO COLLECT

Marvel unleashed a whole bunch of news at Comic Con last week, setting up the next few phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s a rundown.

CAP’N RUSH?

First it was Michael Jordan, then Tom Brady, and now Derek Jeter is the latest iconic, championship-winning athlete to get a multi-part documentary. Jordan’s The Last Dance helped spark a boom in MJ’s cards. Will The Captain do the same for Jeter? Yankee collectors sure hope so.

HOW ‘BOUT THEM BILLIONS

The Dallas Cowboys were named the most valuable franchise in sports, with a valuation of $7.64 Billion. With a big valuation comes a big fanbase. And with a big fanbase comes more people to buy Cowboys collectibles.

SONIC BOOM

A Texas man joined the Guinness Book of World Records for owning the largest collection of Sonic the Hedgehog memorabilia. Over 3,000 items in all.

TRICK OR TREECKO

The Pokémon Group is getting into the Halloween game by selling small packs of cards to hand out instead of candy. A better thing to catch than cavities, for sure.

HEROES FROM ZERO

Zerocool announced some new trading cards based on Stranger Things, Dune, and Clerks III.

DUNGEONS & DOLLARS

With a live action Dungeons & Dragons movie coming to theaters, it’s time to go through your old things to look for any vintage D&D games and collectibles you have lying around. Seems like there could be some value in those thieves.

GOAT SHOES

Last week at The National, all six of Michael Jordan’s Championship winning sneakers were gathered together for the first time.

And speaking of the greatest NBA players of all time, we’d be remiss to not recognize Bill Russell, the legendary player and coach who passed away at 88 earlier this week. Not familiar with his accomplishments. Take a moment to learn about one of the most important athletes who ever lived.
