Employee Gems: Gloria

August 29, 2022

At ALT, our mission is to transform investing by unlocking the value of alternative assets. Part of the fun of working here is that our employees are passionate collectors themselves, and over the next month we are having some of them share their prized possessions with the world. Next up is Data Analyst, Gloria Deng to talk about her pin collection.

How long have you been at Alt? What is your role?

I’ve been a Data Analyst at ALT for four months.

What do you like to collect and why?

I collect pins casually, usually from a trip to a new place. They remind me of my travels, specifically the people I was with and all the fun memories we had.

When did you start your collection?

I can't remember exactly, but roughly around 2013. I was inspired by my friend who was collecting pins at the time.

What does your collection look like today?

My collection includes pins that show the geographic locations, schools, and Hard Rock cafe’s. I also have pins given to me by friends and a few random ones as well.

What’s your strategy for obtaining the assets you want?

My strategy is straightforward, I buy what I like aesthetically.

What is your most valuable asset?

My favorite pin would be a hard rock cafe pin from Hong Kong gifted to me by a friend. I remember she told me that saw my celebrity crush at that time, Aarif Lee when she was buying the pin.

Is there any specific item you’d love to get your hands on?

Not really at the moment, but I am always looking to discover more cute and nicely designed pins when I go to different places.

What do you see as being the future of collecting for your item?

For now I will continue with my leisure collection, but I am sure there is a market for serious pin collecting, especially for the ones with branding like Disney pins etc. I’d love if one day a tool like the instant pricer could apply to pins so I could know the exact value of my collection.
