One of the rarest Connor McDavid rookie cards is up for auction on Alt.

In 1997, Skybox printed one of the most iconic parallels of all-time, Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems, which have become the most treasured '90s football and basketball cards.

Little do people know, Metal Universe was first produced for the hockey card market in 1996. But the dynamic Precious Metal Gems parallel was not included with the set, costing several hockey legends their chance at a PMG.

However, starting in 2012, hockey fans finally had a chance to obtain these precious grails, with the Metal Universe brand returning as an insert in a handful of Fleer brands released by Upper Deck.

The hockey version did not follow the standard parallel structure of the football and basketball releases. Instead, it came in the form of a 30-card checklist with four versions: Red /150, Blue /50, Green /10, and Purple /5.

Since the initial release, they have continued to produce these hockey cards, with stars such as McDavid receiving a rookie card PMG.
